Château de Rayne Vigneau got its name from the first owners, the de Vigneau family in the 18th century. Madame de Rayne born Catherine de Pontac bought the chateau in 1834. The first wine, Chateau de Rayne Vigneau, won the rank of premier Grand Cru Classée of Sauternes on the 1855 classification under the ownership of Madame de Rayne.

This wine has a very lively and fresh nose. It is incredibly intense, with a very present floral character, oscillating between the delicacy of hawthorn berry and the generosity of Spanish broom. The palate, is round and fresh, finishing with breadth and power on rustic notes.

From a top Sauternes estate, this is a dry, not sweet, white wine. It has a rounded character with touches of honey as well as crisper citrus and green herbs. The wine's richness comes through in the density of the fruit and finishes with a perfumed aftertaste. Drink later this year. — Roger Voss
