Domaine du Castel is an estate west of Jerusalem at an altitude of 2400 ft. The vineyards are planted at a density of 6700 vines per hecture and produce very small yields. The grapes were handpicked and after fermentation the wine was aged 20 months in new French oak.
Full-bodied, bold, concentrated, and with layer after layer of aromas and flavors that linger on. Look for currants, cherries, plums, and spices on the palate, with hints of cedar.
Domaine du Castel Grand Vin '20 was served on my 88th birthday with the 3 of us present and tasting. Our daughter who has a trained palate gave us a big broad smile after drinking a glass of this wonderful wine. My wife, love it and said it was the best she has tasted in a very long time. We do serve to top wines on special ocasions. My reaction was that the both the winery and the individual wines both seem to improve with age. We wish James Suckling would taste the wine and compare it with comprable French Bordeauxs.
