This Yarden Merlot offers up a complex array of characters including ripe berries, hints of fresh herbs, nuances of earth and layers of rich oak, elegant vanilla bean, and just a whisper of orange peel and cocoa. This fairly heavy-bodied wine possesses a satisfying richness of flavor. While already enjoyable, Yarden Merlot will improve with a few years of age and remain in good condition for a decade or so. We love Yarden Merlot with lamb, be it braised in a rich stock along with plenty of cumin and a touch of saffron or chops, hot and smoky. Duck and goose also make good flavor partners.
I haven’t had an opportunity to open a bottle. As a rule, I drink wine with Shabbat supper and it takes me 2 - 3 weeks to finish a bottle. I’m working on drinking wines from vintages pre-COVID: ~2017 and 2018. I’ll look forward to drinking the Ysrden Merlot. It usually ages well.
